This one's personal.
This June, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.
There's no clean way to say what that does to a family. One phone call, and everything you thought mattered gets rearranged. You find out fast what's important, and who shows up.
I built Wrought around doing the work when nobody's watching. Watching her face this, I've seen what that really means. She didn't choose this fight. She's in it anyway, and she's not in it alone.
Why it matters
About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. This year alone, an estimated 321,910 women will hear the same words my sister heard.
When it's caught early, before it spreads, the 5-year survival rate is over 99%. Once it has spread to distant parts of the body, that number drops to about 32%. Awareness isn't a slogan. Getting checked early changes the outcome.
And behind every one of those numbers is a person, and a family learning how to carry it with her.
Why we support it
Because to us it isn't a cause. It's someone we love.
100% of the profit from the Breast Cancer Awareness Tee goes to breast cancer research. After the cost of making and shipping each shirt, we keep nothing.
Wear it for someone you love. Wear it for someone still in the fight. Wear it as a reminder to get checked, and to remind the people you love to do the same.
What you can do today
- Know what's normal for your body, and talk to a doctor about any change.
- Ask your doctor when you should start screening, especially if breast cancer runs in your family.
- Check in on someone going through it. A text means more than you think.
